Substation Fire Knocks Out Power To 6,200 Customers In Ocean County

More than 6,200 homes and businesses in Toms River and Lakewood were without power early Monday, Aug. 21 after a substation fire, authorities said.

As of 9:45 a.m., 6,259 customers had no electric service, down from a peak of about 10,000 at 3 a.m., according to Jersey Central Power & Light.

The substation fire was in Toms River.
